A little bit about us...
Children can find magic in places which grown ups overlook: the dark muffled space inside the box, the patter of rain on the roof, the saucepan set, the overgrown garden. For years children’s theatre has had a rich tradition of exploring these imaginary worlds: but what about music?
MishMash Productions is a national leader in producing, promoting and touring exciting music led productions for young audiences. Formed in 2014, following a 2-year research project, we believe in making music more accessible using the magic of theatre to create bold, imaginative productions for children and families.
Following the successful awarding of organisational development funding from Arts Council England we are now entering a period of exciting company and artistic development. Between 2018 and 2020 we are concentrating on organisational resilience as well as developing exciting partnerships in touring and co-production looking to produce new work and tour current work to new audiences across the country.
Our first production Hubbub: A Musical Adventure was developed during 2015 in collaboration with an ensemble of four musicians from the critically acclaimed Aurora Orchestra, actor Josie Rattigan, award-winning composer Paul Rissmann, theatre director Martin Berry and designer Hannah Wolfe. Hubbub was developed with significant funding from Arts Council England and then toured nationally in 2015 and 2016. More information can be found on the projects page.
During 2017 in partnership with Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries we developed our second piece Smile. With funding from Arts Council England and in association with Nottingham City Council Library Service and support from Nottingham Music Service, Nottinghamshire Music Hub and Nottingham Lakeside Arts Smile is based on the fantastic Catherine Rayner book Augustus and His Smile. This piece toured Nottingham and Nottinghamshire in Autumn 2017 and is touring nationally in autumn 2018 and spring 2019. For more information see the projects page.
Following the success of Smile a further collaboration with library services, this time led by Nottingham City Libraries, will see us develop a second piece to tour libraries across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Strange Creatures, inspired by the Alexis Deacon book Beegu will gently explore what it means to be unique in a surprising and colourful world. For more information see the projects page.
In addition to developing and touring our own work we additionally offer producing and tour development support for other organisations. This could include support with fundraising, creative and artistic development or tour booking. We have recently worked with a number of chamber music ensembles including the Villiers Quartet, Hold the Drama and TROUPE and are currently working with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
