LEADD:NG Project

During 2022 we are collaborating with the University of Nottingham Mixed Reality Lab as part of the European Funded LEADD:NG Project to explore the use of immersive technology. More information on the project can be found here.

Our project will enable us to experiment with a hybrid live and digital performance style with an accompanying virtual world. More information to follow but for now here is a little preview of our green screen recording session!

Previous Projects

1) Mini Mash-Up Video Podcasts

Interactive video podcasts for 3 - 7 year olds

This series of 11 interactive podcasts explore the music, stories and theatre from our shows Smile, Strange Creatures and Hubbub: A Musical Adventure.  Each short podcast includes performances and participatory activities for children aged 3 – 7 and their families and classes.

Each podcast is based on a theme featured in one or more of our shows including shadow puppetry, singing, body percussion, wordplay, drawing, origami, imaginative play, listening, movement, composition, improvisation and feature interviews with our musicians, composer Bill Carslake, and authors/illustrators Catherine Rayner and Alexis Deacon.

These podcasts take a fun and informal approach to introducing children to our music and productions and inspire them to make their own – music, puppetry, drawing, dance, and much more!  The content also links nicely to specific areas of the KS1 and EYFS curriculum supporting learning in school.

Mini Mash-Up extra special podcasts:

We’re delighted that author and illustrators Catherine Rayner and Alexis Deacon have joined our Mini Mash-Up adventure and we now have an Augustus the Tiger and Beegu podcast to add to our list!

2) Young Humans of Classical Music

Inspired by the Humans of Classical Music campaign from pioneering company Alternative Classical, Young Humans of Classical Music is a collaboration with MishMash Productions encouraging children and young people to share their favourite pieces of music and describe what makes them special in their own words.

During 2021 we collected videos from children and young people across the country and now share them on our dedicated Young Humans of Classical Music YouTube Playlist. You can find a selection of the videos below as well as a link to the full Playlist.

We have collated a selection of pieces to inspire your listening here and on our Spotify page - https://tinyurl.com/yhcmlisteninglist.

Alternative Classical creates and promotes new approaches to classical music and is unique in having a majority audience of under 35s. We offer consultancy, creative direction, and artist/project management services to music organisations and individuals who create informal classical music experiences for diverse audiences. Alternative Classical’s projects include Humans of Classical Music (musicians, actors, comedians and podcasters recommend their favourite classical tracks) and Concert Roulette (a new way of discovering classical music). On the Alternative Classical website you’ll also find a whole host of articles and interviews about the future of the classical music industry.
